Welcome to the CD ROM factory. This is where all of your labors, and our services are
converted to a useful product for your end user.

Mastering
- The mastering step is a process which takes the data from the CDR and through the use of
the mastering computer makes a stamper. The stamper begins as a piece of photo-sensitive
glass. The mastering computer imprints the physical image on to the glass. The glass is
then etched and plated. The plating is separated from the glass and becomes the stamper.
There are various "in line" and post process tests and measurements to insure
that this stamper will replicate the exact information contained on the CDR.
Replication
- Once the stamper has passed inspection, it will be placed into one half of a cavity in
an injection 20-40 ton capacity molding machine. The cavity is closed hydraulically and
optical grade lexan is extruded into the cavity. The cavity then opens and a clear disk
drops on to a spindle. The disks are then picked up one at a time by a robotic arm, and
placed on a turn table. The disks travel through four steps. Metalizing, Lacquering,
Optical inspection, and UV drying. The silk-screen label is then applied, the label can be
up to 6 colors. Note: There are CD ROM label templates available in Aldus Freehand or
Adobe Illustrator. Colors are in silk-screen ink and need to be specified as PANTONE
colors and not 4 color process.
Assembly
- The CD ROM job is then ready to be packaged. Numerous packaging options are available.
Jewel cases are a standard and are cost effective as the CD ROM, the printed pieces (Front
liner, spine, and Back liner) can be assembled by machine. Other options are as simple as
a Tyvek envelop, or "mini album" to complex card stock and plastic combination
holders. As with any package, the price will be dependent upon package construction, run
sizes and number of colors. The front liner can be a single sheet or a 24 page book. Note:
There are Front liner, spine, and Back liner templates available in Aldus Freehand
or Adobe Illustrator.
